Minutes of the General Meeting held on Monday May 2nd, 2016
The meeting was called to order at approx. 8:04 p.m. - on-line Moderator/Chair. – President: Dave Gilmour

Reminder: A quick reminder that there is a prize at the end of the year for everyone that has attended a meeting, served on the exec or a committee. You get one entry for every meeting attended, committee served on or exec position. They go into a hat at the end of the year and a name is drawn.

Dave: I would like to call this meeting to order. If everybody could please type in your name for attendance sake.

Everyone should of had a chance to read last month's minutes. Any any errors or omissions?

Dave: As Rick is not here the only thing to mention that we are working on a pamphlet to hand out and still have some decisions to make on some promotional items.

Trophy Committee: Anne McDougall

Anne: still waiting for my trophy budget

Dave: I will check with Mary to see what we spent last year Ann
Christine: Is this for the regional or national

Mary: The BCC does not pay for trophies for a regional, the club or member that is putting on the show does. BCC only pays for National Trophies in Ontario. All the rebates for a regional go to the club puuting it on to defray the costs

Christine Burton	When the extravaganza was put on did the club not give 500.00 to Northern and Boxer Club of Central Ontario from fund raising
MaryCurl	I would have to look that up
Lillian Wainwright	the last time the ODKC held a regional the BCC provided trophies / prizes
Dave Gilmour	Was those funds not through the Royal Canin money we were receiving
MaryCurl	Yes Dave that was correct. When Royal Canin was our sponsor they gave money for Regionals as well as the National
anne mcdougall	yes, funds from Royal Canin, ,
Christine Burton	Actually, Royal Canin money was paid to BCC, but the extravaganza money came from club fundraising
MaryCurl	The 500 given to the other clubs was the Royal Canin funds I believe. Royal Canin paid BCC then BCC paid it ouyt as it did every year we go the funds
MaryCurl	That is how it was laid out in the royal Canin ciontract
anne mcdougall	maybe the BCC should pay for the trophies for regionals since we have lost RC funding. not like we are broke

JennyCatton	No reporjust to clarify. Royal canin gave to bcc and we gave the funds to other clubs?//
MaryCurl	Yes Jenny. I had to tell them qwhat regionals there would be and they gave 500 for each and 1000 for a National to the Bcc for the Bcc to distribute
MaryCurl	to the Boxer Clubs that held BCC regionals
Christine Burton	Just a suggestion....as Ann said we are not broke. Perhaps the executive could put a budge together to help offset costs for regional trophies for all regionals going forward
MaryCurl	I assume trophies would include ribbons? If we do that Christine then would you want the rebates from the show to come back to the BCC
anne mcdougall	not necessarily, host club should keep the rebate
MaryCurl	Generally the All breed club send the rebates to the BCC and the BCC forwards it on to the host clubs

Lillian Wainwright	BUT if theall breed clubis supllying the trophies and ribbons... thenthey should keep therebate
Dave Gilmour	So if I understand this right the suggestion is to fund 6-8 regionals a year as well as the national. The only reason I mention this is one of the other topics to be talked about is some charitable donations.
Christine Burton	Since we have no sponsor it may be something the club wants to decide on going forward. How trophies, rebates etc should be handled
MaryCurl	Most Clubs or members hosting a regional hope that the cost is offset by the rebates and in most cases it is. the idea is to boost entries for the show as it is usually in conjunction with a specialty of their own
MaryCurl	and or their all breed show
anne mcdougall	maybe if the host club gets the rebate then the BCC could ad to the rebate to a certain total, does that make sense
anne mcdougall	like if the trophies were 250.00 and the rebate was 100.00, then the BCC gives the host club 150.00
Christine Burton	Perhaps as we could have a discussion just on this either at another meeting or executive and bring numbers to a vote. We could also have one fundraiser for National and one to split between regionals. The club has approx. 18,000. without any current fundraising so providing some funds for trophies may be possible. JMO
MaryCurl	I like the idea of fundraising for both - good idea

Christine Burton	If we give a set amount to each regional everyone knows what they are working with.

Dave Gilmour	I guess my question is who plans on doing the fundraising?
Paul Wilcox	I was just going to say a set amount, as some whould go crazy with trophies
Christine Burton	I realize the National show is our big show, but we should not just allocate money to this show. We do have 18,000.00 in club funds and we are considered non-profit. If we allocated 250.00 (or whatever number members feel appropriate) x 6 or 8 regionals that is only 3,000 or 4,000 per year.
Christine Burton	That number would include National money 1,000.
anne mcdougall	I need to know if I have a budget, I want to get started at this and need to know, cannot afford to pay up front.
Kim Long	What if the number of regionals increase...could drain us pretty fast
Dave Gilmour	I guess everybody decided to ignore my question about who is going to do the fundraising
anne mcdougall	either that or no trophies for regionals

JennyCatton	The monies would be automatically Sent tot he host club
Paul Wilcox	Why can't the people hosting a regional do their own fund raising, and like Kim said it would not take long to drain the bank.

JennyCatton	sorry not finished.. Before the show correct? Also to address Kim's point we would have a yearly or maybe every 2 years evaluation of the # of regionals & how much was sent agreed? Possibly at the agm??
Kim Long	That is what I had to do by myself when I had one and it turned out ok
Dave Gilmour	Exactly Kim. Monika puts on a successful regional by herself without our help.

Shirley Bell	If BCC chooses to donate to Regionals that would be nice but not a requirement.
Christine Burton	As long as everyone is in agreement that we only fundraise for the National Show, however as a non-profit club we should be careful having 18,000.00 in funds in the bank given some clubs are being audited by revenue canada along with many kennels. Revenue Canada considers a club having reasonabl expenses to run one year of expenses as the benchmark for non-profit
MaryCurl	Should our funds not go to promoting the club & breed and to causes like research or whatever.

Dave Gilmour	Folks we still seem to be dodging the question about who plans on gauranteeing that all this fundraising gets done to pay for all these projects. If we want to start draining down some of our moneys for charitable uses I have no problem. Patti is not going to keep busting her butt while everyone sits back and reaps the benefits
Kim Long	I dont blame her..that's not fair
JennyCatton	Agreed but should we also not be seen to be supporting the Regionals as well as the National specialties? After all the maximum number of regionals can be calculated as per stated by the ckc per zone
Dave Gilmour	The most recent fundraising project has been going for 7 months and still only has about 50 contributors out of 350 to 400 requests
Dave Gilmour	Putting on these fundraisers is a daunting task with help from a very small group.

Marta Nettelfield	Fundraising is a tough go these days :-(
Dave Gilmour	I think we need to move on today and maybe talk some more at the executive level before coming back to the general membership with this topic
MaryCurl	If the club wants to support regionals out of club funds that is one thing or if those having regionals want to get together to fundraise that is OK too. Most regionals support themselves with the rebates though

The on-line auction will be held on a 4-day weekend: Friday - Monday, 10 - 13 Jun 2016.
Time to be determined.

Old Business:

Dave: The first order of business was to be the vote on the 2018 national but I don't think we have a quorum

Cindy: So we are going to need to wait until June to vote on the 2018 National now?
Dave: yes will do it at the June meeting and will get some advance notice to everyone to prod them to come to the meeting if they want a say as to where the National will be
Cindy: Okay. Should I post some details on FB and the email list?
Dave: That would be great.

Christine: Audit report will be sent to the executive prior to next executive meeting and members for June meeting

Dave: Thank you and Mike for all your work.

Dave: The other topic is donations

This is a list of the suggestions: Boxer Rescue Canada American boxer Charitable foundation Junior Handlers OVC. Pet trust. Donation towards cancer research Boxer rescue Ontario Ovc - Blood donor program DM research
Jenny: Could be give each of the listed donations $200? That would be $1400.00
Dave: I have a few questions on some of these suggestions. Does OVC have specific research going on in regards to Boxers and the DM research is with who
Mary: If we decide to give the 200 for each and find out that one of them does not have current research going on we could just hold that one back
Christine: OVC donations that are specified cancer research will go to that. It is not specific to boxers but with how prevalent cancer is in our breed we would benefit
Mary: I was thinking of the DM - not sure if it is ongoing at the moment
Dave: I think if we are looking at donating to cancer research we should deal with someone targeting the things that plague our breed the most
Mary: Any research in cancer or DM is good and not breed specific. Is there any that is breed specific?
Dave: I had planned on talking to the ABCF people when at the national to see what all research they are involved in at present
Marta: Great idea, Dave.
Dave My understanding is that lymphosarcoma and hermagiosarcoma are two of the more prevelant in our breed and I think ABCF are torgeting them. How about I talk with them and come back to the eceutive with an report and at that point we can make some suggestions to the membership
Cindy: Good iudea
Mary: Can we agree on rescue & junior handlers in the meantime? and go forward once you have more info on the rest? That is three and we can still donate to the other when we know more Sorry 4 if you count BR Ontario
Dave: Why don't we wait till I get back from ABC in regards to any health related donations, we can go ahead with the Boxer Rescue stuff and the Junior idea is more like a annual program for the BCC to sponsor any junior handler handling a boxer
Cindy: Do we meed a motion?
Christine OVC Pet trust cancer is a very worthy cause
Dave Is there any harm in waiting a couple weeks to make the final donations. I think we owe it to our breed by putting our money where it gives us the biggest bang
Christine Dave do you mean all donations or the health related donations?
Cindy: ]I make a motion to table the donations until Dave can get more info on health related causes.
