Information from the Canadian Working Dog Federation (CWDF)
Dear member of the CWDF Executive Board, General Board, and Committee Chairs,
I would like to share with you some information about the 2019 CWDF National Championship and ask for feedback and suggestions about it.
We are in the early stages, and the location, organizing club/group is yet to be determined, but we have set the date, and it would be the weekend of June 21-23, 2019.
Finding a date for this championship is in itself quite challenging. This trial will select Team Canada for the FCI IGP 2019 World Championship that will take place on September 11-15, 2019 in Austria and having the GSSCC Nationals at the end of July, as well as GSSCC regionals between the end of April and the beginning of June, one of the last 2 weekends of June appeared to be the best timeframe for the CWDF Nationals.
In order to find a hosting club or group, few of us have thought about creating a survey, that would be sent to all IPO/IGP trainers in Canada, to help us determine the location(s) that would be the best fit to accommodate as many competitors as possible. We tried to keep the survey as simple as possible to get as many responses as possible. There are questions that will help determine if the respondent is a potential competitor at the championship and if he/she would be also competing at the GSSCC Nationals, in order to try to limit traveling in such cases, as we want to encourage people to compete in both championships.
Link to the survey: https://form.jotform.com/83007709637966
Please take a look at it, and fill it with dummy data, just so that you can see how it works. Some questions trigger showing/hiding others. For example, the question "Please enter your dog’s name and current title" will show only if you answered "yes" to the previous question: "Are you considering participating in the 2019 CWDF National Championship and selection for the FCI 2019 World Championship?"
If you find that some questions should be modified or added, please let us know, your feedback would be much appreciated.
Once we have the survey ready, we will send it to all IGP dog trainers in Canada.
The Head Judge for this event will be Andrea Duggan, and the anticipated main Judge is Martin Pejša, from the Czech Republic. Martin participated multiple times as a handler at the FCI and WUSV World Championships and is a well-respected Judge that officiated in several major competitions such as the Czech all-breed Nationals, GSD Nationals, BSD Nationals, several CACITs, and FMBB WC. I have met Martin at a few occasions, and we had him at our club for a tracking seminar earlier this year. He is a very knowledgeable, humble, and easy person to deal with. You can find more information on Martin's dog sport career on working-dog: https://www.working-dog.com/user/Pej%C5%A1a-Martin-54301.
We will have confirmation from him at the beginning of December, following the announcement of the date for the Czech GSD Nationals/WUSV selection trial, in which he will be competing.
Looking forward to hearing your comments and suggestions,
Anthony

Dear ABVMA Board & Members:
As an owner of a breed that has been docked and/or cropped, I belong to group of people who want to support responsible breeders who work with veterinarians to attain these procedures.
I write you fearing that if a ban of this procedure goes through, the responsible breeders who seek this procedure through the correct channels, and who provide all aftercare and training when needed, will be lost.
I choose to continue to support the breeders who strive to encourage health testing, illness prevention, breed education, lifelong support, who help advise me on proper puppy pairing, and who support pet insurance so that their puppies always have access to proper care. These good breeders are major contributors to health research to ensure they provide us with the best puppies possible.
I hope that you will consider that losing this group of dedicated people who want the utmost best care for our pets will be a detriment to the pet community as a whole.
As a pet owner who owns a cropped or docked breed I want this procedure to be available for myself. I also want to continue to purchase dogs from a breeder who is able to perform these services at an early age, under the appropriate care of a veterinarian.
Please consider that as caring dog owners we want to do what’s best for our dogs and this is attaining them from good breeders who work together with veterinarians.
We ask that you can consider a way to work with breeders and true dog lovers to ensure that everyone can maintain access to veterinary care at all levels.
Sincerely,
