Marta Nettlefield
Director Alberta
Once again, I have nothing for my report.  I send out requests for input and everyone ignores me.

*Secretary’s Note:  I would like to mention here that Marta is a great promoter of Boxer Rescue Canada for which we should all be thankful.  She also was of immense help with the online auction held earlier this year

Irene Waddel
Director Saskatchewan

All I have to report is, I am working for a young couple, that got a pure bred Boxer from a Boxer breeder in Alberta, Samsun Boxers,  Burton Hoyt, a member of the Alberta Bolxer Club.

The young couple live in Balgonie, Sask. and I taped up the ears for them.  The dog is a very nice male, 13 months old and the couple have not got his registration papers yet and he was sold as pure bred and was to be shown.

I have all ready talked to the breeder and I will take it to CKC as I had given the breeder six months to provide papers and he has not done so.

Everything has been quiet here with the Boxer people.

I have been working with some of the other dog clubs about people stealing small dogs to put into the fighting ring to encourage the other dogs to fight in the rings.  The poor little dogs are killed and warning the people about their dogs being stolen.  Saskatoon has had a fair number of dogs stolen and Regina is missing two, so far, that I know of.  The rings are in old abandon barns in the Weyburn and Estevan area.  People bet on which dog is going to win and s\ some people are making lots of money.  I feel bad about the little dogs.

That is all I have to report right now.

Sandra Beck
Director BC Interior & Yukon

LOST BOXER:

Firstly, as many of you may know… a Boxer entered at the Merrit shows was lost on July 1st, 2012.Kody is a 1 YO flashy brindle male, cropped, tattoo 3RH2Y, 3 short white socks and one full long sock on front. He was frightened by his first encounter with fireworks and slipped his collar
on his way back to the hotel with his owners, and yes this is their only dog and my heart just breaks for them. Best contact is breeder Karen Knox 778-688-0564. A full blown week long search was conducted, but we just know he’s drooling under the dinner table right now mooching
tidbits from some little boy whom he followed home. Let’s keep our eyes/ears peeled.

PAST SPECIALTIES:

The SWH&O Club held their working/herding Specialty July 2012 in Vernon, for which I was lucky enough to ring steward. Judge John Connoly thoroughly enjoyed handing out the toys to all the winning dogs, imagine my suprize when I learned that his first boxer was an obedience dog… what fun! CH Hi-Tech The King of Sherry Shoot JP took the breed & Goup 1st ; BCC member Brenda Jordan swept up the rest of the ribbons (WF-BOW-BOS-BP & BPIG) with her puppy Remember Me Queen OF Hearts; Mephisto’s Knockout

At Ntk took WM; CH Rowenda’s He Shoots He Scores took Veteran Breed & Best Veteran in Specialty. No BC specialties for the rest of the summer, but at the Sagebrush Sept Trials you’d think it was (Saturday 1/3 of the obed entries were boxers)… 5 boxers were in attendance and legs and/or titles were earned by all!!

April 2012 saw the BCC Regional in Chilliwack, though sadly I did not. You just know that Monika and her Renaissance Club did a lovely job of the Regional with her usual flair, so THANK YOU's all around. I'll include the results off Canuck Dogs, however not sure whom all the owners are I'll include BCC members that I know of, sorry if I miss anyone: BISS/BOW/WM Dornlea's Achy Break Your Heart; BOS Shelly Dueck's CH Jestic N Toprank's British Sterling (I see she also took a BIS at the all-breed show!); BPISS/WF Ringside's Chantilly Lace 11 (I know "Ringside" are BCC members, but do they own the puppy??); Select&Vet Male CH Jems Rock The House.

Of course we mustn't forget the Specialty Obedience Trial. There were 2 entries Novice B & C, the C wanted to enter veterans (he`s 9) but there was no on-line entry for it so went with C and q'd, this was not a member but it was the fabulous Boy George, more on him later. The Novice B was their first time in the ring and didn't quite get there this time (B because they have Rally titles... stupid rule).

UPCOMING SPECIALTIES:
The premium list is on-line for the 2013 Dogwood Boxer Club & Western Canada Boxer Club Specialties (& Sagebrush Working/Herding Specialy & KDKC all-breed shows) to be held in Kamloops on Labour Day long weekend. The boxer clubs are also putting on matches. This is their first time together in Kamloops so looking forward to `too much fun` April 2014 BCC Regional and Dogwood Boxer Club Specialty will be held in Chilliwack. This one sounds HUGE as there are 2 all-breed clubs offering 5 or 6 days in a row of shows.

NOTEWORTHY:
Though not member related, there are 2 accomplished Boxers in BC that well deserve mention: GEORGE formally known as: HCHA Jems Culture Club CGN CD RA HA HAsd SDAHX Am. HSAs RA RLFI-s HTDI-s HRDII-s VB VBX. The name says it all, yup doesn't even fit on one line.
I'm sure you're all familiar with George's fame as a herding dog (thus all those titles including his NEW Am herding titles) and if you aren't you MUST visit his facebook page. Thank you George & Louise Watson for raising the bar. ASTA aka OTCH Boxjoy`s H`Àsta B Water ADI CGN TT Earned her OTCH in June 2012, for those obedience buffs I need not explain, for those less buffed... this is a title of significance.

Thank you Asta & Sue Cizek for demonstrating the integrity of workability in our breed.

IN MEMORY:
On a sad note, BC lost 2 BCC life members in the past year: Ron Herd & Shirley de Boer. I will copy the e-mail info from their families here. Please take a moment to honour their memory.

RON HERD

Dad was born in Leuchars, Scotland on the 28th of March, 1930. He was the first born of John Watters Herd and wife Betty Nicholson Watson Herd. His birth was registered in St. Andrews. My Father, Ronald George Herd grew to have one sister and two brothers. Throughout the war, Father’s family travelled throughout Scotland as Grandpa was an electrician. Grandpa’s skills were needed during the war and as such there were many school changes throughout Dad’s school years. The war really impacted Dad’s view of funerals. None of us like funerals, but Dad especially did not want a funeral or a celebration of life. Grandpa and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1952 and for two years they worked and sent money home to get Granny and the rest of the family to Canada. Dad worked as a teacher in Scotland and as an engineer here in Canada. Once Dad came to Canada, he never returned to Scotland.  He embraced Canada as his own. He played ruggar when he arrived and kept many of those friendships over the years. It was with the help of the Jewish Men’s Society that Dad got his start in Canada. With a loan from Rabi Rosenburg of Toronto, Dad got enough money to purchase a car to get him to his first job. That kindness stayed with Dad all the years of his life. That story became a family story, told with pride and repeated many times over the years. It remains our family’s Pay it Forward, and a true point of pride and gratefulness. Dad met Mom in Toronto and they courted for two years. They married on April 9, 1955. I am the only child of Ronald George Herd and Noretta Lilayan Lentz Herd, (born August 17th, 1932, Maynooth, Ontario). Dad worked for English Electric 1955-57; Racey McCallum 1957-59 where he was a metallurgist at the Chalk River reactor.

Dad and Mom chose a boxer named Bootsie as their first dog and from there they built their life. They ran a boarding kennel in Maple, Ontario while Dad worked as a dogcatcher 1959-61. Dad ended up working for Purina 1961-65 and through this he began attending the dog shows. Dad showed our own dogs, was active in the Boxer breed and went on to become an international dog judge. Our home was blessed by many four legged lovies throughout the years. We had boxers and pointers, a poodle, some cats and a bassett- not all at the same time of course! We moved to Cooksville (Mississauga), in 1965, and that home was where we all remained throughout my schooling. Dad worked for Arnett in Port Credit from 1965-71. He was the manager of Gaylord Regethermic in Brampton from 1971-1986. After leaving Gaylord he became a real estate agent in Mississauga and sold property from 1986-1991.

After Dad’s retirement in 1991, Mom and Dad moved to Vancouver Island- “Paradise Found” as Dad said. Dad continued his dog judging and traveling. He had earned his all-around judging and this afforded Dad the excitement of judging and travels to other countries. He remained active in judging until his retirement from judging in November 1999. Dad remained active in the breed and to this day we still have many friends in the dog game. Dad was recognised by the Canadian Kennel Club for fifty years of dedicated service. My Dad was active in the Nanaimo community. He was involved in Citizen’s on Patrol for two years. He went on to start Speed Watch here in Nanaimo and was awarded the Volunteer Award for 1999 for Vancouver Island by the Ministry of the Attorney General. That program still runs today with volunteers.

Dad passed away suddenly on Thursday September 20th while Mom and I were on an overnight trip to Ucluelet. When we were unable to reach Dad by phone, our dear friend Rick came to the house and found him. My Dad leaves behind his wife (my Mother) Noretta, daughter Sherri-Lynn, grand-cat Nubby, and many close and dear friends and extended family to mourn his passing. I would like to thank everyone for the prayers and kind words, shared memories and acts of support that have buoyed us through this difficult time. Thank you to the paramedics, fire and rescue, RCMP and the coroner for coming to take care of my Dad. Dad will be cremated and buried at a later date in Maynooth Ontario, where most of Mom’s family is laid to rest. Arrangements are being handled by Benson’s Funeral Home in Millbrook, Ontario. Should anyone wish to make a donation in Dad’s name, we have selected The Christ Lutheran Church, RR#1, Maynooth, Ontario, K0L 2S0.
NOTE - the last show that Ron Herd judge at was THE OAKVILLE & DISTRICT KENNEL CLUB, Sept. 1999, Burloak Provincial Park.

SHIRLEY DE BOER

"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a legend in our home- Mrs M. Shirley de Boer (our beloved Wife, Mother, Oma and Auntie). Shirley lost her battle with Cancer on Monday March 11th 2013. Right until the end she was with the love of her life (husband of 60 years) Ben and surrounded by her three beautiful grandchildren.

Shirley loved all of her canine companions and best of all, the wonderful friends she shared her life's work with at the Boxer Club of Canada. While our hearts are broken today, we have peace that she is up in heaven, reunited with her daughter Jodi and her kennel of extraordinary pups. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boxer Club of Canada. We all thank you all for the many many fabulous years together – with Love -Ben, Jason Barend de Boer, Lisa M De Boer, Carson K de Boer, Tyler de Boer, Taylor de Boer, Pam De Boer, Joanne de Boer Paul DeBoer & Carolyne DeBoer xoxo"
