Old Business:

  • Jenny: Can we deal with the Royal Canin sponsorship at Oxford County first
  • Shirley Bell: Letter sent re the sponsorship....heard nothing back yet.
  • Shirley Bell: Did we do membership?  I understand one of the member applicants has been suspended by CKC for 2 years
    • Mary: That is an application that has not been brought forward because of discipline hearings at CKC - I have no first hand knowledge of the outcome
    • Mike: The matter was heard at the recent CKC Appeal Committee meeting.  A decision has been reached but I don't know for sure if the parties have been advised of the results so i don't know if I am at liberty to divulge the decision to the BCC as yet.  Sorry.

 Out of sequence:

  • Mary reported for Christine (Membership): The following have completed their  probationary period and, if there are no objections, be declared Ordinary members at the next meeting: Kim Long Terri Pickett, Karen Deschambault
  • Paul Dulong: With regard to the Membership Application, may I suggest it be moved to the open area of the Club website instead of being buried in the members section?
    • Jenny asked for the rational for this.
    • Paul: Members don’t need one.
    • Mary: It would also let people know what is involved with applying for membership
    • Jenny: Are we in favour of placing the Membership Application in teh general section of our website & removing it from the Member's Only Section?
    • All in Favour, carried

 Return To Old Business

  • Jenny: One question I have re Royal Canin; what position are we in if we don't hear back from Oxford &/ Purina?
  • Anne: If we are looking at returning to a stand-alone show we need to know soon.
  • Mary: If we are not allowed to have RC at the National I say we move the show to another location. it is too much money to loose and also we are the ones that contracted with RC in the first place - it would be bad not to have them.
  • Jenny:this cannot be resolved here at the meeting we are going to have to get together to sort this out asap.

New Business

  • Jenny: Onto the CKC discussion re donating $1 000 to their funds.
    • Mike: As you are aware, the CKC, at the 2010 AGM in Winnipeg, announced it was in dire financial straits due to a significant, larger than expected loss in the 4th quarter of 2009. The loss is due to many factors including, but not limited to: the recent move to new offices, lower than expected registrations, lower than expected show revenues, lower than expected membership renewals and a loss at Apex Publishing. The independently audited financial report was made available to the membership. At the AGM, it was disclosed that the CKC, at that time, may have difficulty meeting the April payroll. Without financial assistance from the members and member clubs, the CKC may have to drastically alter their focus. It was made clear that registrations would not be affected.  The CKC will still be able to register purebred litters and dogs but virtually everything else is on the table. The CKC has taken some action already and a vigorous plan is being put into place to correct the situation.
    • In the meantime, the CKC is asking member clubs to donate $1,000.00 as well as asking members to donate $100.00 to help the CKC get on its feet once more.  To be clear, this is a donation / gift, not a loan and not a charitable donation.  There is no plan in place for the CKC to repay the money.
    •  The BCC Executive met on this issue and we firmly believe that this is a decision to be made by the membership of the Club. Our recommendation is that the BCC defer deciding on this issue until we see the action plan being put into place by the CKC. The Executive 2010 04 12
    • A lengthy discussion was held on this topic. Most people agreedwith the above.
    • Sheila McAvoy informed us of Federations being started.
      • Sheila: I was just at the meeting of the Alberta Federation of Dog Clubs....and according to Ag Canada our shows and trials are not at risk either
      • These Federations will monitor everything at the meetings.
      • we need to belong to the Federation and breed clubs have membership dues to make sure we have a say....there should be several forming in Ontario
      • if the CKC goes under Ag Canada takes over registrations and shows and trials as they are governed under the Animal pedigree Act of Canada
      • The Federations are forming to ensure Shows and Trials continue
      • The Federations are made up of the dogs clubs, one member from each club...either all breed, group or single breed.  They send one member to all the CKC meetings to represent the dog clubs across Canada

Motion by Shirley Bell: I move we do NOT donate money until we see a concrete plan in place so that this does not happen again in future.
Jenny Catton seconded.  Carried unanimously

Secretary’s Note: As this discussion went on until after 10:30 pm I cannot relate it all here.  I will post this section of the log for anyone who wishes to read it along with the minutes on the website
