Old Business:

  • Irene Waddell: I received a word from a wire fox terrier member that CKC are going to back the Terrier club and allow tail and dew and not backing the Vet. Assn in this regard. This is apparently because the farm animals are allowed to be docked and whatever.  So what is fit for the goose is fit for the gander.  Maybe we are all in luck.  no word on ear cropping as this is not important to the terrier club.  I am still in contact with the Dob and Dane clubs regarding ear cropping and still fighting it for the Boxers
    • Mary: From CKC site in case anyone missed it: Revised Ear Cropping Policy Approved by Board At the regular December 2010 meeting of the CKC Board of Directors the following revised Ear Cropping policy was approved: The Canadian Kennel Club has protected the integrity of purebred dogs since its founding in 1888. It is the steward of Standards and Registration. Today the Canadian Kennel Club supports breeders whose breeds have traditionally been cropped. The Canadian Kennel Club is attentive to changing societal values with respect to purebred dogs and with dogs in general. The Canadian Kennel Club believes that the breed clubs are best able to manage the standards of their respective breeds. The practice of ear cropping is a significant part of the history of many breeds or purebred dogs. Breeders of purebred dogs continue this practice for not only historical reasons but also to promote safety in performance activities and to promote hygienic animal husbandry. The Canadian Kennel Club is concerned that the practice of ear cropping be performed under the most humane of circumstances, and that breeders deserve the right to choose to have this practice done; and further, that veterinarians deserve the right to choose to perform the practice. It is noted that the practice of ear cropping continues to be available in other countries, including the United States."

New Business:

  • 8:40 PM [Paul Wilcox] Mike has been posting about the trophies, and i am wondering why they have not been updated
    • Mike: Paul and all - back in 2002 (I am saying that year as that is the last date on most of the trophies) a discussion came up about storing, updating and lugging all the trophies.  the trophies were getting old (most of them at least) and a lot of them were full and could not handle any more names.  They were not in the best of shape as they had been stored in outdoor sheds etc. It was decided not to take the trophies to the shows any more and that is the last time they were tended to.  Eve Whitmore haws had them for several years and she just moved out of her home and had to get rid of them.  Jenny and I picked them up and we decided to put all the old names out to the membership and to list all the winners and put the names on the website along with a picture of the trophies.  I am looking at all the trophies to see what condition they are in.  We are going to try to update as many as possible and have them at the National Specialty in June
    • Mary: The executive has decided to update and refurbish these trophies at no cost to the sponsors so that they can be showcased at the National in June. Winners can have their pictures taken with the trophies and keepers will be given out as usual.
  • Mary: Re 2012 National - From Monica
    • She would like to nominate Mr. Alberto Berrios to judge the National in 2012 and has two nominations for sweepstakes judges, Zona Grupe and Nancy Ingalls, both from the States.
    • Other considerations are from the panel at the show: Mrs. Geraldine Crandall, Ca Mr. Edgar Bajona, On. Mr. Chris Neilsen, On.
    • A discussion was held on whether we can vote at a meeting or do we need to send out ballots.
    • Mary: If I am not mistaken (could be) for Nationals etc hosted by out of province clubs the vote has been taken at the meetings but would have to double check that
    • More discussion

No motioned to adjourn, Meeting closed at 10:13 p.m. Next Meeting:   Monday February 7th, 2011 – 8 p.m. Ontario time.
