Old Business:

  • Ballots for 2011 National Specialty
    • Anne: do we want to add another judge to the 2011 ballot to replace Clay Haviland or leave the ballot as it is
    • Jenny: I have had 15 ballots sent in so far & of those that voted for Clay only 2 have re-submitted their vote.  Five more need to be resubmitted
    • Mary: I am appalled at the response both to the nominations & to the voting for a National Specialty
    • Discussion held main points being:
      • The only boxer Breeder has been removed from the ballot
      • Do we want to reopen the nominations?
      • Can the deadline be extended?
    • Mike: My opinion - I feel this is uncharted waters for the Club.  Our procedures can't cover every eventuality so we have to be able to address odd situations like this.  With that in mind, I think we should ask for nominations again - with a very short timeline and then state the voting over.
    • MOTION: By Mike Catton - I would like to make a motion that we ask for new nominations for the 2011 National Specialty in London.  Deadline for nominations to be in is the end of March.  Extend the voting time to the end of April
    • Seconded by Mary Curl
    • Amendment by Mike: amend motion to show Oxford County – Woodstock
    • Motion Passed

*Secretary’s note:  A seconder for Judge nominations is not required.
Additional: Shirley: Does the nominator need to contact them to make sure they are available?
Mary: No Anne does that.
Anne wants contact information with the nominations

  • Royal Canin sponsorship at Oxford County
    • Shirley: I have not yet heard anything positive about this
    • Mary: We still have no written commitment from Oxford County regarding the Royal Canin sponsorship for the National in 2011 even though this was part of the agreement.  I think a letter should be sent to the executive of the oxford county club asking for same.
    • Shirley: The Show Chair for Oxford County is Al Marshall.  He called to tell me that he had spoken to Purina and that they (Purina) would call me.  That was in December it is now March and I have heard nothing.
    • I will send a letter to Al Marshall and cc it to Jack & Medley.
    • Mary: Perhaps it should go to all the executive of the Oxford Club as well - to cover all bases.
    • Anne: Maybe also cc it Purina
    • Shirley: I am thinking that it is up to him (Al) to deal with Purina.  I am writing on behalf of Royal Canin
    • Mike: I agree with Mary.  I think a letter should go to Marshall and the other exec members of the Oxford Club with a short diary date.  If we don’t get a response back shortly, we should look at other options i.e. Red Pine or something similar.  I realize the BCWO has had some terrible setbacks what with Margaret and Cathy Ireland but we have to make sure we don't upset Royal Canin
    • Jenny: Can we leave it that Shirley is to contact both BCWO & Oxford County & Purina -- Is it possible to send it to the Breeder Rep here on Royal Windsor Drive in Mississauga?
  • Shirley: Could we not hold shows (Regional) as well as the National in July??  Not at the same show....Regional in June  National in July at Oxford
    • Mary: Not sure but I think a Regional would have to be hosted by another Boxer Club to have two in the same year

New Business

  • Crop & Dock:
    • Mary: Crop & dock ban in Nova Scotia - no details yet on the wording but it's confirmed that they voted it in
    • Jenny: I know we were told by the ON VMA that we would be consulted re crop, dock. dewclaw for our input before any decision would be made. What that will entail who knows
    • Shirley: If members don't take any more interest in the crop and dock ban than they do in the nomination of judges we might as well say good by to the breed as we know it today.
    • Irene: Irene Nova Scotia was a fete accompli six months ago it is happening full bore.
    • Irene: Ear cropping, tail docking & dew claws, if we don't get off our butts we will lose the battle.  Out here it’s a very hot battle.  I have talked to a lot of vets that don't want to bother. The head vet for Canada lives in Outlook Sask thinks we are all behind the times compared to other countries. The vets out here have all received posters to put in their clinics against tail docking, dew claws, ear cropping, etc. it is getting ahead of us.  We should use every avenue we can to get the message out.  I ust sent $500.00 to K9 Alliance hope it will help them with this project.
    • Mary: Watch the K9Aallince website for updates

Motion to Adjourn: Paul Dulong, seconder Mike Catton.
