Minutes of the General Meeting held on Monday May 14, 2012

The meeting was called to order at approx. 8:06 p.m. - on-line Moderator/Chair. – President: Dave Gilmour

Sandra Beck: I must apologise, I intended to do a 50/50 draw at the national but was told that the venue required a gaming license so couldn't do it... sorry

Fund Raising Committee:

Paul Medeiros - I do need some information on past stuff that the club has done just so i can get an idea of what work in the past and what didn't. I am also working on current ideas. I will have more to report next meeting
I will also need to have an idea of how much we need to raise.
Pattie: Paul, I'll throw a number out . . . am thinking $1,000 would be great.

Special Service Award: Debbie

I have not received any nominations - Lillian mentioned at our last meeting she was going to send me a nomination but I never received it and I know she has not been well.

Reading of General Correspondence: Cindy Thomas

Dave: There has been a request by the NOBC (Northern Ontario Boxer Club) to co-locate with the BCCI for the 2013 specialty
The other piece of correspondence was from the Oakville & District Kennel Club requesting to hold the 2013 specialty but the specialty is already spoken for the year 2013 by the BCCI so they would have to make a request to co-locate as well.

Secretaries note: The following shows pertinent discussion from the chat log.

JennyCatton	dave I would like to point out that at teh time that we were all talking about the NAt in Ont we were still talking about a standalone show. A lot of discussion has occurred since that time that I feel that we have to explore and consider all proposoals and options open to the BCCi so that we can maintain solvency
Mary Curl	We were not necessarily talking standalone - just that the National would be in Ontario and run by the BCCI
sandra beck	what is co-locate?
Dave Gilmour	Meaning that instead of having a standalone we would be in conjunction with an allbreed show
Mary Curl	Like the BCC regional is doing this September with the Oakville show
JennyCatton	Dave we have a genuine proposal from a member in the Oakville club to HOST not co-locate the 2013 National Show - we the BCCI in all conscience need to consider this proposal as on a finacnial v=basis it is win win for us the BCCI. The Club hosting assumes all loss
Mary Curl	The application states: The application must be received by the BCCI Correspondence Secretary by the end of February, two full years in advance of the show date being requested (i.e. February 28, 2004 for the 2006 show). All applications received by the BCCI will be held until the end of February when a decision will be made.
Dave Gilmour	When I asked for proposals we were looking for co-locations as the 20123 national has allready been awarded to the parent club
Michael Catton	Dave. There is a proposal on the floor and you cannot summarily dismiss it without having discussion on the merits of the proposal and knowing what we can and cannot due vis a vis the CKC
Michael Catton	I think the NOBC co-location would be great. I think the NOBC would do a tremendous job but we are all members and we all have to be on the same footing
Christine	Proposals have to be in by May 31st
Dave Gilmour	This is just discussing correspondence Mike
JennyCatton	I'm missing somethign here - do we have a situation where we cannot hold a standalone show because of cost or is it something else all together???
Mary Curl	Please remember also that if a National id hosted by another club the BCC does not get any funds from the show. With a co-location any funds realised go to the BCC
PaulDulong	Stand-alone does mean that BCCI can't host its own show...just not in a location by itself
Dave Gilmour	Jenny it is financially prohibitive to have a standalone show at this time because if the numbers of entries
Michael Catton	And the BCC doesn't lose money either, Mary
JennyCatton	Dave I agree and that is why we MUST consider ALL propsals
Anne McDougall	cost was why we decided last year that we could not afford to do a stand alone anymore, that trying the regional this year to see if it improves the entry when combined with an all breed show
sandra beck	nobc,cobc,nobc,bcwo,host, colocate...i'm getting lost...we received an application for an ontario all-breed club to host the national in 2013 yes/no?
Michael Catton	Yes, Sandra that's correct
kristi wagg	and what about the dinner and awards
Michael Catton	Everytihing that the hosting club does is spelled out in the application
Mary Curl	The partameters are that the BCC has it's own show but at a different location
Michael Catton	dinner and awards belong to the BCC
Michael Catton	dinner and awards are the responsibility of the BCC everything else is spelled out in the application on the w2ebsite. Prizes are the responsibility of the hosting club the club hosting the show - just like the Royal Canin funds
Michael Catton	You want to vote on the NOBC proposal and that proposal may be wonderful but I certainly don't have any details of the costs etc associated with having the show in Barrie. How can we vote on somethign when we have no info?
Michael Catton	We are just trying to offer another opton. The best one for the BCC should be the one we go with
Dave Gilmour	At this point we are not voting on anything we are just entertaining proposals
Michael Catton	If that is the NOBC proposal then tremendous but we have to have info
Michael Catton	I would like to make a motion that the details of both proposals be made public for the membership to have a look at so we can make an informed decision
Dave Gilmour	WE are still asking for proposals up to the end of this month
Michael Catton	Then make my motion read that ALL proposals be made public etc
Dave Gilmour	At that point we will inform the membership of the details
Michael Catton	What point is that, Dave. sorry, don't understand
Dave Gilmour	The point being when we have all the applications they will be made public to the membership
Michael Catton	I have mentioned several times that we should be doing what is best for the BCC. Granted, if the ODKC hosts the show, we take any financial gains but we also suffer any financial losses. Just like when the National is in BC or alberta.
Michael Catton	All proposals should be heard and considered
Dave Gilmour	Thats enough folks the discussion is done

Old Business:

Marta: Rescue Dogs: First, thank you to the BCC for their donation and to the BCC Silent Auction for raising $$$ for Harley.

Our current fundraising total - wait for it – 13,395.63
Dave: Way to go Marta!
Marta: Any of you following Harley on Facebook will see the incredible progress he has made :-) I'll have all his videos from Day 1 posted on YouTube this week.
Our other miracle rescue, Ava is doing amazingly well. She had her live shunt surgery and her recent labs show that her liver values are right where they should be.
Ava is going in for an ultrasound on Friday so the vet can get a visual on her liver and will also check her heart as she has SAS - but we don't know the status of it. It's a miracle that she is alive!
Dr Mark LOVED all the thank you cards he received as well as the BCC t-shirt. He was tremendously touched that so many people around the globe took the time to send him a card. Well done everyone!

Mike: With respect to old business. I recently made a proposal to provide BCC clothing. It has never gotten off the ground and I would like to get started with it if the club wants to go that way.

Dave: Discussion...
Mike: Mary is run off her feet and hasn't had time to address it on the web so I would like the club's permission to reach out to the members directly to see if we can raise some funds
I think we decided we could put a page up on the BCC site for this - I just need more info from Mike but contacting members in not a bad idea either
Mike: It is a fundraising activity but I am just asking permission to get it going by reaching out directly to the members
Most members present thought it was a workable idea
Paul M: I agree with starting small. I think Maybe we could start by reaching out to members. Have these shirts already being designed? I mean chosen?
Mike: My question was - can I reach out to the membership directly to try to get something going - while still working with the club to get it on the website etc. I have the BCC logo digitized for embroidery and have done some shirts already. There are piles of different items out there that we can look at
Paul M: That would be great Mike. I think we should work on this together. If you are ok with that.
Mike: I'll put some things together and send t to you (Paul)and Mary

Sandra: just a follow up on bill M 214 (Secretaries note: Standards of Care for Breeders of Companion Animals Act ...)

Lillian was kind enough to put me in contact with the dlcc and I’ve been told that it is a private members bill with no support at this time
will be contacted if it goes otherwise and will keep you updated if that is the case
