Programme: Lillian

  • PROGRAM AND NEW BUSINESS
    Premise:
    1. As many questionable boxers and boxer ads are now put on such sites as Kijiji for sale, and others 2. As the Dogs in Canada do not question with the person placing an ad with them is legit - ie : a reputable breeder, one with no mix-ups with the law or the CKC, one with affiliations to a reputable breed club - the only pre-requesite to advertise in Dogs in Canada is that the cheque does not bounce.

I would like to propose a link to the BCC home page site on the internet: Puppies & Older Dogs Available This link would have a 2 fold purpose. For the public - a quick click would show them what reputable BCC members would have puppies or older dogs are available - and by province. For the BCC members:
    1. To post to this site you would need your BCC password - the one you use to get into the members only section.
    2. a simple format would be used - Select the province - then fill out the following info:
Name of breeder and town: Date of litter birth: Dam of litter: Sire of litter: Number of pups: Male # & colour:
Female # & colour:  Comment line (limit to 15 words) , Link to breeders home,  page or breeder's home phone number.
    3. A simple basic ad, no prices quoted, to be used only for info purposes This ad would have an expiy time of 3 weeks-- the breeder could redo/update the ad at that time for another 3 weeks. All ads would have a 3 week limit but could be renewed.
  • Nora noted that this would not be workable for the BCC. We would require a disclaimer as well as someone to take on the task of all the uploading. If the general public knew about our site, which they do not, it is KIjiji where the BCC should have a listing directing them to the BCC site
  • Lillian noted that: once they get to the BCC site they will want to look for puppies - and if there is nothing there they will go back to Kijjiji
  • Anne suggested: I think it should be more of an education page linked to kijiji, what to look for
  • Norah: That is the reason we need a listing on Kijiji by area,so each area and or Boxer Club would list on KIjiji for their area coverage
  • More discussion on the viability and usefulness of these proposals.
  • Mike: OK  We have a proposal and it needs work to see if it is viable to work in the best interests of Boxers.  We need someone to take the lead on it.  If anyone is interested, please contact Lillian

Trophy Committee:  NO report

  • Do we have anyone who is interested in being the trophy chair?

Membership: Patti Gilmour

  • Nothing to report other than a couple of inquiries
  • Patti moved her report - Report accepted

Discipline Committee:  Frank Rouse - No Report
Obedience Committee:  Marta Nettelfield - No Report
Fund Raising Committee: Mary Curl - No Report
Reading of General Correspondence:

  • Paul D presented a letter from Shirley Bell
  • As a life member of the Boxer Club of Canada I have been privileged, over the years, to have held many positions within the club.  I believe my contributions to the club have been positive and well documented.  I am proud and happy to have contributed to the positive growth and I have derived a great deal of satisfaction from the jobs I have done. However, one reaches a point in life where verbal and/or emotional abuse cannot be tolerated.  After much soul searching I find that it is impossible for me to continue serving this national club based on the present environment which currently exists within the BCC.   Regrettably I am tendering my resignations from any and all positions that I am presently involved in with the BCC.   I will, however, if the club wishes, continue with my commitment to organize the echo clinic to be held the First weekend in June. I would be more than happy to help and/or mentor anyone willing to take over any of the positions I have held in the past.
  • Norah & Sandra asked for clarification of the problem
  • Mike: In short - it was a confrontation between Shirley and myself
  • Shirley resigned a while ago as Trophy Chair and she just resigned as Correspondence Secretary and Regional Director
  • Norah: That truly is a shame as Shirley has been instrumental in making many of the changes which have helped the club immensely

Old Business:

  • Echo clinic: From Shirley
    • Echo clinic. As I began it with BCC I will continue it that way.  Dr Luis is charging us $200 CAN per dog plus his hotel expenses.   We will cover the costs his expenses by charging Members 210.00 (pre-registered) and 225.00 at the clinic. Non members will be charged 275.00.  This is NOT a money maker as far as I am concerned it is a service to the breed we love.

Good & Welfare:  Lillian Wainwright

  • Thank you card from Kim Tarrington
  • Lillian moved her report - accepted

New Business:

  • Lillian: I think the members should be aware that the CKC is scaling back on its services - going to a two tier system... and the Life members are losing some of their privileges... the club - as a whole should perhaps let the CKC know that this is not acceptable.. the government - as a rule - does not accept two tier endeavours.. ie: health plans.  and Ag. Canada does not have two tier membership plans.
    • Mike asked if Lillian could prepare a letter for the executive to review.
  • The last item we have for new business is dealing with Shirley's resignation.  We can appoint a Correspondence Secretary under the Constitution.  Is anyone interested in taking this on?
    • Hopefully Shirley will come back but if she doesn't, we will have to get a new Correspondence Secretary as well as Trophy Chair
  • Sandra reported: The BC vets met in Oct and only one spoke in favour of the subject of cropping docking, suspectred it will go to a vote in jan. anything from any other areas?
    • Dave: Sask vets voted it down by a mere majority of three votesin Sept
    • Deb S: Sask will have another vote next year, guess they did not get what they wanted

Paul Dulong motioned to adjourn, Deb Schenher seconded, accepted.  Meeting adjourned at 9:09 p.m.
Next Meeting:  December 6th – 8 p.m. Ontario time
