INFORMATION REGARDING ERIE SHORES 2009 SHOW

Erie Shores will be holding an outdoor show, June 4, 5, 6, & 7, 2009 at the Caledonia Fairgrounds, Caledonia, Ontario. The site of the show is on the banks of the Grand River in the town of Caledonia, within walking distance of restaurants, stores, etc.

2009 will be the 47th, 48th, 49th, and 50th show for Erie Shores Kennel Club.

Erie Shores has 3 large rings with a 30 X 60 foot tent for the regular show. The specialties are held in a separate area not far from the regular show and a large tent is in place for the specialties.

The club puts on a barbecue for the exhibitors on Friday, after Best In Show. We hold an eye clinic on the show site with a licensed opthalmologist. We are still planning other events to make the show as enjoyable as possible for our exhibitors.

JUDGES:

So far the following judges have agreed to judge at Erie Shores for 2009. The panel is in the process of being approved by the CKC.

Subject: RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SPECIALTY SHOW CLUB HOLDING A SHOW WITH ERIE SHORES

JUDGES:

If you are providing your own judge for your specialty that will be fine. If you require help in finding suitable lodging we will be more than happy to help and you may even be able to have your judge stay where the judges from Erie Shores are staying, as long as there is room. Your judge will be fed lunch along with the Erie Shores judges while judging for you.

In the event that you wish to use one of the judges hired by Erie Shores then there will be a fee of $2 per dog from your specialty to help cover the costs of the judge.

RING STEWARDS: If you would like to provide your own ring steward that will be fine. Otherwise Erie Shores will provide a ring steward.

CATALOGUES: You are more than welcome to include your specialty in a separate section of our catalogue at no charge. The exhibitors may appreciate only having to buy one catalogue for the entire weekend. However, if you would like to have a separate catalogue that will be your club's responsibility.

BOOSTERS: Each specialty club may hold ONE booster on any day of your choice. Erie Shores will give a rebate of $5.00 per dog and will provide rosettes for BOB, BOS, BW, WD, WB, & BP. In return we ask that you provide prizes for at least BOB, BOS, BW & BP.

SPECIALTY ENTRY FEE: The entire entry fee will go to the specialty club with the following deductions taken from it: CKC fees, Show Secretary fees, costs of ribbons and rosettes, and a $2.00 per dog fee if you use one of Erie Shore's judges.

Subject: Accommodation & Banquet Facilities at Erie SHores 2009 Show

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR EXHIBITORS

Caledonia is a small town with little in the way of lodging that will take dogs. Erie Shores uses a couple of Bed & Breakfast Inns for our judges.

Luckily, the Mohawk College, Hamilton, rents out its residence in the summer and allows dogs. They enjoy having the dogs. The college is about 20 minutes from the show site. There are no rooms on the main level but the residence does have an elevator. Breakfast is included in the cost. Children under 12 stay for free. The cost for one or two people is $75.00, three people is $80.00 and 4 people is $85.00. Breakfast is from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

If you do decide to have your exhibitors stay at Mohawk College please ask them to be considerate. It is so hard to find motels/hotels which take dogs. It only takes one careless person to ruin it for everyone else. According to the conversation that one of our members had with the college - they love dogs. Please help us keep it that way.

BANQUET FACILITIES

There are many choices for banquets depending on the number of people who will be attending.

CANADIAN HERITAGE WARPLANE MUSEUM (20 minutes from show site)
www.warplane.com
There are 4 different areas where banquets are held. They range in capacity from 42 people to 1500 people. You would have to look at the website to see what is available. Other specialties have held their banquets at the Warplane Museum and were very pleased.

THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE (15 minutes from the show site) This is where most of our judges for Erie Shores stay. We have been very pleased with the care and feeding of our judges at this B&B through the years. They can accommodate up to 52 people and serve wonderful food. They also allow you to put up a tent outside so that you can bring your dogs and leave them in their crates under the tent while you dine. This is a charming place situated on wooded acreage.
Their website is www.thegingerbreadinn.com

THE BROECHELER INN (20 minutes from the show site) www.thebroechelerinn.com We lodge our judges here as well and have had great feedback. They can accommodate 42 people for banquets. The innkeepers serve great food and have a bakery. The Inn is beside a soccer field and is on a huge acreage.

GRAND RIVER DINNER CRUISES (10 Minutes from the show site)
www.grandriverdinnercruises.ca This is a 3 hour cruise on the Grand River. The boats can accommodate 60 people and the Belle is the largest of the boats and would have a little extra room to allow for trophy tables, etc. The 2008 cost per person was $38.00 per person for 3 course beef dinner with homemade bread and the cruise. It is a unique and relaxing experience.

CATERED MEAL OR BARBECUE ON THE GROUNDS - This is another option available on a first come first serve basis. The building where we hold our eye clinic (the Kinsman Building) is often used for dinners and banquets. It can accommodate up to 100 people and is on the show grounds. There is a fee for using the building.

Another option is holding you banquet under the specialty tent (a better choice than the main tent as you would have to wait for BIS to end before you could start to set up). There are several caterers in the area who would be happy to provide your meal. If you are interested in having your banquet catered just let me know and I will put you in touch with some of the area caterers.

These are just a few ideas. In the event that you wish to hold your specialty with us and would like to use facilities on the show site, please remember that it will be on a first come first serve basis. Your club may not be the only one wishing to use the building or the tent so I would suggest that if you are interested then you must make arrangements as soon as possible.
